About (5)

What is the purpose of Litlift?

We want to help the world expand free thought, and in particular, share those thoughts, stories, writings, musings, etc. in a simply, easy-to-use, FREE application to 1) help develop and organize your writings, 2) collaborate and enhance your writing skills and 3) share your writing with others. Please note our application is most thoroughly tested using Chrome and IE, so for now we generally recommend using one of those browsers.

Are you really a free service?

YES! We do NOT have any upgrade charge or follow-on catch. Everything is free. For now we maintain the site with donations (thank you very much)…and even no ads within application to distract you! Longer-term we will add a patented publication feature to allow users to get paid for their work and may charge for this premiere service.

When is the next new release planned?

We released our last upgrade was in Nov 14 and have some additional tools and creative idea generators (will be the best online) updates planned for the next few months, so stay tuned and thanks for your patience Loyal Lifters. Then later will be our completely royalty free publication service.

Is your service only web based?

Yes our service is entirely web based to give users the ability to write anywhere and anytime. Your work is securely stored online and can be shared with anyone (an optional feature). For those who ask or may be wondering, we currently have no plans to build a stand-alone, desktop application.

Do I need to download or select anything to receive your next release?

Nope! Our application is web based and runs on the cloud. As soon as we make updates to the application you will get them…easy-peasy.

Back-up (2)

Can I back-up my writing?

Yes, after loading/showing any one of your books at the bottom right of the screen you can select “Export Book Info” in a basic text format or rich text format which exports book and chapter information for that book.

Do you back-up data?

Yes, our servers run on the Amazon cloud so everything is safe and has automatic back-ups. Plus we pay extra for higher level database and application back-up services than most other sites and any of our competitors. And you can manually export your information for personal back-ups using the “Export Book Info” button.

Delete (1)

How do I delete information?

We use the term “destroy” within the application. You can destroy any of your work at any point by selecting the respective “destroy” button. If you want to delete your entire account, please email us and we will delete it for you.

How do I edit in full screen?

Please note this feature is only currently present in the Book, Chapter, and Scene objects or screens. To use simply click on the Maximize button—it expands the writing area to full screen. To return to the application simply click on the button again. The maximize button is located in the bottom right part of the editor menu and looks like a large “X”, which is actually an image of 4 arrows (implying a maximize sign) from the center of the button.

Library (4)

Do I have to share my work?

No, absolutely not. This is an optional feature. We value your privacy. Your work will not be shared unless you load it into the library. And if you do you can remove it at any point.

What is the library?

The library is a new sharing and collaboration feature. It allows you to share any one or more linked chapters with 1) only people you invite (lucky fools), 2) all Litlift users (cool group that we are), OR 3) the world (and your future publicist)! And while we call them “chapters” you can consider them blocks of related text and use it to create a novel, story, anthology, biography, diary, etc.

If I share my work how do I hide or remove it?

Under the library link for your book select the sharing type as private.

How do I share my work?

Select the ‘Books’ main menu link and then click “Add to library” link. Then by selecting to share your work with other members or the public you will have options to provide a synopsis and select individual chapter(s) to share at the bottom of the screen. If you later want to hide your chapters simply un-select them or to hide all of them select the sharing type as private.

Login (4)

How do legacy users (without email login ID) log-in?

Simple, same as before:) But you will be prompted to change your user ID to your email. We highly encourage you to do so because it will be the only way we will reset passwords in the future (you can do it yourself) and our contact forms to us and with other users rely on it. Please be assured we do not share your email with any other parties.

How do new users login?

Great question, just click one of the sign-up buttons near the center of the homepage to create an account.

Help I forgot my password; how do I reset my password?

Click on the “forgot password”  link immediately below the password box on the homepage. You will then be emailed a link to reset your password.

What if I don’t get a confirmation email?

While our system generated confirmation emails are automated, it is possible there is an error in transmission or more likely the receiving server or email account tags it as trash/spam and deletes it. Thus, just let us know if you don’t get a confirmation email and we will manually create your account within 24hrs.

Plotline/storyline (4)

How do I use plotline or storyboard feature?

First you must have created a book. Then after clicking “Plotline” on main menu simply click “Add Plotline”. You will be taken to a “Plots” screen with a few key fields/terms that will help you outline or define your plot; now you don’t have to fill-out these fields initially to use the full storyboard/plotline feature for your book. So on the “Plots” screen all you have to do is add a title and click “Create”, then on the upper menu you can navigate to the chapter or scene storyboard feature.

Note as you work in the chapter or scene plotline/storyboard screens your work or movement of objects is automatically saved. You can create as many plotlines for a book as you want and they won’t save over the actual order or attached status of chapters or scenes unless you click the “Save” button on a specific chapter or scene plotline.

Under plotlines do I need to save chapter and scene storyboard work?

No as you arrange your chapters and scenes on the new plotline chapter and scene pages your work is automatically saved. You can create as many plotlines and chapter/scene layouts for a book as you want and they won’t save over the actual order or attached status of chapters or scenes. If you want to apply a certain chapter or scene layout to that book then select the “Click here to save scenes/chapters” link on a specific chapter or scene plotline and the chapter order will be saved to your book and scenes automatically attached to those chapters.

Under plotline how do I apply or save my chapter or scene order to my book?

As you arrange your chapters and scenes on the new plotline chapter and scene pages your work is automatically saved.

Why isn’t my plotline feature working?

The most common reason why your plotline feature isn’t working is that you first need to create a book. All plotlines are associated to a book. You can create an unlimited number of plotlines under each book.
